The House is Chicago's premier home for intimate experiences of epic story and stagecraft. Founded and led by Artistic Director Nathan Allen and driven by an interdisciplinary ensemble of Chicago’s next generation of great storytellers, The House aims to become a laboratory and platform for the evolution of the American theatre as an inclusive and popular artform.
The Last Defender is a game. A cooperative game where you, the players, must work together and communicate as a team to succeed. You will do this by gathering and sharing information, solving puzzles, and working as a group to make increasingly difficult decisions.
This live action game will make YOU the hero. There will not be live actors in the room, or an audience watching. Only players (that's you) and a few masked helpers to ensure a smooth experience. You will work with the folks you come with, and strangers, to solve puzzles and advance the story. You'll play inside a fully designed Defender HQ, complete with locker room, supercomputer, communications and information terminals, rec room, and more.
An 'escape the room' type game/performance, with excellent production value, fun puzzles, and a good atmosphere. Everything about the set up is creative and execution is great. Don't miss this one.

I've run through this game on two occasions: The first with friends, the second with my family for Mother's Day. Both times, everyone had a blast.

This is unlike any interactive event I'd played before. The stakes are high, the puzzles intense, and the enjoyment is palpable. I've managed to save the world and destroy it on two separate occasions. There are so many different tasks to complete, this has very high replay value without detracting from the challenge.
I highly recommend The Last Defender. Whether you prevent all-out war or rain down a nuclear apocalypse on humanity, you're sure to have a great time.
The Last Defender is one of those things that's difficult to describe because it's so unique and amazing -- an interactive game/puzzle/escape room with a high-stakes plot, where all 16 participants are working together to save the world. It fuels you with adrenaline and stimulates your intellect and problem-solving skills in a totally fun and enjoyable (though occasionally stressful) 90 minute adventure. I had a blast and also I totally wanted to sit and have a cocktail after and talk about the experience.

The experience is so immersive - from the emails you get before, to the uniform/jumpsuit you wear, to the physical design of the room - but it feels cool and not kitschy (a tough balance to strike).
This is the perfect activity for Chicago locals or visitors. I've played with friends and with strangers, and I'm coming back a third time with coworkers.
Side note - Also a great first date if you want to see how someone collaborates with others and solves problems in a high-stakes environment!
